STYLE SPOTLIGHT // Elle Kaw Chronicles
“I’ve always been a t-shirt and jeans girl…invest in great simple pieces that will last for years.” -Lindsey Kawamura
Elle Kaw Chronicles is a carefully curated and aesthetically inspiring style blog created by Lindsey Kawamura. Her love for fashion, art and design ultimately led her to leave her life as an accountant to pursue a more creative field. With her go-getter mentality, we weren’t surprised to hear that moving to NY was also one of the best decisions she’s ever made. We admire her fearless attitude and eye for style so we did a short Q and A to learn a little more about her…
Q / What inspired you to start a blog?
A / I’ve always had an interest in fashion/art/interior design, and I’ve been building things and designing/making clothing since high school. I love to be creative and was looking for something new to do in my spare time. I am lucky enough to work in the industry, but I don’t necessarily get to be creative in my everyday role, so it’s been a really fun personal project for me. It’s really pushed me to get outside of my comfort zone. I’ve been exploring the city more, getting to meet awesome new people (like yourselves!).. hopefully I’ll continue to grow along with Elle Kaw Chronicles and inspire other people along the way!
Q / How did Elle Kaw Chronicles name come about?
A / It’s a play on my nickname/initials.. friends call me L.K. and L.Kaw (shortened version of my last name). Elle makes it a little prettier! L.Kaw really came from my friends here in NY so it only seemed fitting to use it for the blog which sort of documents this chapter of my life.
Q / The mini collaboration with Nobu looked so fun! Any other cool collaborations worth mentioning?
A / Hopefully! It was really great working with Nobu and blending our styles and wardrobes. And it’s always great to work with new people. I have a really awesome photographer (and friend) that I work with on most of my posts, and it’s great because we work really well together. But it’s always exciting to work with different photographers and get to see their style/technique reflected in the work. And of course working with Refind Denim has been a real treat! Guess you’ll just have to check back to see the next collab!
Q / What are the goals for Elle Kaw Chronicles?
A / I started Elle Kaw Chronicles at the end of last year, so it’s all still relatively new to me! I am really working on trying to define my voice and the overall direction of the blog. I have so many ideas, it’s just about figuring out what is right! I like things clean and simple, I don’t want the blog to be overwhelming. I love photography and creating stories through images, so I really want the blog to aesthetically inspiring, not just about fashion. Right now the main focus is getting the name out there and building a following.
Q / What are the 3 items you must have in your closet for Summer?
A / White shift dress, killer sunnies, denim cutoffs.
Q / Do you have a memory that has shaped your style?
A / Oo that’s a tough one. There isn’t one moment stands out, my style has definitely evolved over the years and been influenced by the places I’ve lived and worked. I think I’ve gone through every phase/trend and definitely had some “what was I thinking” moments (like everyone I’m sure!), but it’s funny because now that I think about it, I can see little elements from every period of my life which have either stuck around or have come back into my current style. I really like to keep things simple, I’ve always been a t-shirt and jeans girl. I’ve learned over the years not to be super trend heavy and instead invest in great simple pieces that will last for years, and to mix low brow with high brow. Moving to NY has definitely made my style more monochromatic!
Q / What do you look for when purchasing a pair of denims?
A / Fit!! I am probably drawn to a pair of jeans initially because of the wash and cut of the leg, but my booty’s gotta look good in them!!
Q / Anything interesting about you that we don’t know?
A / hmm well I didn’t always work in fashion.. I was actually an accountant right out of school! But it didn’t quite hold my interest, so I went back to school and switched careers. It was the best decision I’ve ever made aside from moving to NY. Oh, and I have a huge sweet tooth. Everytime I walk into a Duane Reade I always have to get Haribo gummy bears. You’ll usually find a bag of them in my purse (like an old grandma)! So good!!
Q / Beyonce or Rihanna?
A / Rihanna!
